The Radiation Detection Lab at the Missouri University Research Reactor
supports several instructional efforts with 10 Spectrum Techniques
instructional stations. It is used to teach Nuclear Engineering’s Radiation
Detection and Measurement and Chemistry’s Radiochemistry combined class to
approximately 45 students (from disciplines including Chemistry, Nuclear
Engineering, other Engineering disciplines, Nuclear Medicine Technology,
Radiology, Veterinary Medicine, and Physics) per year. It is available to
support laboratory instruction for MU's annual, summer course on “Nuclear
Science and Technology for Secondary Science Teachers” (taught annually for 28
consecutive years to an average of about 25 teachers). It is also used to
support curriculum development activities for an Associates of Applied
Sciences degree in Radiation Protection Technology, a curriculum currently
being used by 10 nation-wide, two-year academic institutions.
